STATEMENT“The process of creating this work is a delicate balance between chance and control. Working outdoors, I am immersed in nature’s elements: the wind blows, leaves fall, rain begins, insects crawl across the fabric, and the sun sets, marking the passage of time as the seasons shift. Using standard spray paint cans, the nozzles clog, blobs of paint spurt out, and cans run empty mid-application. With these uncontrollable factors, I strive to craft surfaces that are both alluring and nuanced—containing the very imprint of the earth juxtaposed with voids of emptiness. These surfaces create illusions of depth and flatness which are inverted upon closer inspection. In this process, I engage with the tension between what we know and what we don’t, between what appears on the surface and what lies beneath.”
