Leilani is a native of Kailua, who has recently moved back to the islands after studying, living andworking overseas since she was 19. She has been a ceramic artist for over 30 years and has beenusing translucent porcelain exclusively for 23 of those years. Inspired by the shapes, textures andsurfaces that she sees on land and in the water, Leilani creates beautifully crafted, small batch,functional and sculptural objects with personality and whimsy. Using a soft-slab method ofbuilding, Leilani hand rolls porcelain clay into thin slabs, before texturing, modelling and shapinginto unique, one of a kind pieces. Every step of making, from start to finish, is done by her handsand is carefully considered, to ensure her work is captivating to look at, pleasant to hold and apleasure to use.
