Sabrina Marques’ paintings are a vibrant fusion of memory, myth, and magic. Growing up as the daughter of a Cuban exile and a Portuguese orphan, she was steeped in stories of fortune, loss, and resilience. From an early age, Marques understood the power of humor and imagination to provide solace—and her work carries that same spirit, transforming remembered and invented experiences into playful, vividly colored compositions. Her paintings draw on the oral traditions of her family, weaving ancestral history with her present life, and creating works that are at once intimate, fantastical, and deeply human. Marques has exhibited widely, including solo shows at Yale University and Whittier College, and group exhibitions at Bernay Fine Art, Geoffrey Young, and Morgan Lehman Gallery. She has received fellowships and residencies from the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, the Vermont Studio Center, and The Studios of Key West, and her work was selected for the Radius Program at the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art. She holds a BA in Visual Arts from Columbia University and an MFA in Painting and Printmaking from the Yale School of Art, and she serves as Associate Professor of Painting at Western Connecticut State University. Collectors are drawn to Marques’ paintings for their luminous color, narrative richness, and emotional resonance. Each piece carries stories of ancestry, memory, and imagination—art that delights the eye, sparks conversation, and brings a sense of wonder into any collection.
