Born in 1973 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Magdalena Rantica lives and works in Oaxaca, Mexico. She holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad Nacional de las Artes in Buenos Aires.Rantica has exhibited her work in renowned museum institutions, including El Museo del Barrio in New York, the MUPO (Museum of Oaxacan Painters), and the Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires (MAMBA) in Argentina. She has also presented her work at the Manuel García Contemporary Art Gallery in Oaxaca, the Argentine Embassy in Mexico, and the Cultural Center of Pisa in Italy. Rantica's works are now part of prestigious public and private collections worldwide.Rantica’s practice focuses primarily on painting and drawing. Her work explores the theme of landscapes without adhering to strict naturalism, incorporating elements inspired by decorative art. Drawn to decorative art’s efforts to soften and tame the wild and violent aspects of nature, she aims to create an illusion of control, as if to soothe this untamable force.Her work has been highlighted in various publications, including Marvin Magazine, Hoornik Collection Art Magazine, BLUR Magazine, and Mora, the journal of the Interdisciplinary Institute of Gender Studies at the University of Buenos Aires, among others.
