André Clouâtre lives and works in Montreal. Holding a PhD in computer science, he devotes himself to painting as a field of perpetual transformation. After a period marked by austerity and reduction, since 2024 his practice has shifted toward a more drawn and chromatically assertive approach. His body of work unfolds around four main axes: the representation of nature and landscape; abstract and combinatorial experimentation—within which he developed a distinctive genre he calls Enumeration; philosophical and ontological inquiry; and an ongoing reflection on the creative process. Through this plurality of approaches, Clouâtre constructs a practice situated at the intersection of abstraction and the evocation of the natural world, combining conceptual rigor with expressive freedom.Writing also occupies a fundamental place in his practice, serving not only as a reflective extension but also as a key to interpretation. His texts, sometimes philosophical or narrative, frequently accompany his paintings, deepening their existential dimension and offering viewers an experience that is both sensory and intellectual.
