About D. Arthur Born in southern Ohio in 1958, D. Arthur began painting at an early age. The son of a talented hobby artist, he grew up surrounded by his father’s work and an endless library of art books. Inspired, he first focused his talents on portraiture—completing more than 4,000 portraits and exhibiting in all but six states across the U.S.Over time, his creative path shifted toward wildlife. Lions, tigers, and bears became his subjects, but one unlikely figure stole the show: Rhupert the ostrich. What started as a single character gradually took on a life of its own and, as fate would have it, reshaped D. Arthur’s career. Rhupert became more than just a muse—he became a mirror of D. Arthur’s personal journey, a guide, and a reminder to embrace authenticity while never taking life too seriously. After all, it’s a funny thing being human… or an ostrich.Since his debut, Rhupert has captured hearts worldwide, with collectors in all 50 states and more than 27 countries. As D. Arthur (or perhaps Rhupert) puts it:“The three most difficult things in life are: Find yourselfBe yourselfShare yourself…and none of them are possible without a sense of humor.”
