Patte Reider Ormsby was born in Heidelberg, Germany, and grew up in Ridgewood, NJ spending summers in Wellfleet, MA. She sold her first paintings there, at the Fox’s Den, at the age of 12. Ormsby has a degree in Studio Art and Art History from Moravian University and studied Gilding and Glazed Finishes with Michael Kramer’s Gilders Studio through the Smithsonian Institution Resident Associates Program. A classically trained fine artist, with a background in metalwork and jewelry, Ormsby believes one must learn the rules in order to break them. Through years of independent study, experimentation and happy accidents, Ormsby, a lifelong learner continues to do just that. The mother of three grown young men, she lives with her husband, rocket scientist and expert framer in Fredericksburg, VA. Recent exhibitions of Ormsby’s work include the Provincetown Art Association Museum (Provincetown, MA), Angelo Jewelry Gallery (Charlottesville, VA), AMZehnder Gallery (Wellfleet, MA), Cape Cod Museum of Art (Dennis, MA), Corcoran School of Arts & Design (Washington, D.C.), Les Yeux du Monde, Charlottesville, VA and the Wellfleet Preservation Hall (Wellfleet, MA).
