“I paint landscapes and seascapes that represent my wonder, curiosity, and excitement of a place. They are colorful expressions moving toward abstraction but grounded in recognizable elements from my surroundings. Over the past year, I have pushed myself to explore the “what ifs” in my studio. What if I allow myself to just let the marks flow with no preconceived ideas regarding the final composition? What if I experiment with the color and have each hue lead me to the next? What if I play in my studio, as I did as a child, and allow the joy I feel to transfer onto the canvas? What if I make the work I want to make? The results of this mind shift have created works that are included in my exhibition, Beautiful Place.” Suzette Lebenzon has painted since her childhood in Scituate, MA. She has kept a studio and shown in galleries most of her adult life while working as a nurse. She has a degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in painting. Five years ago, she retired from nursing and devoted herself to her studio practice. Suzette keeps her home and studio in Wellfleet, MA.
