This new collection of work came to life over the Spring and Summer of 2025, inspired by walking the trails of the seashore and woodlands of Wellfleet, MA. It is about the plants and life in the borders of sandy meadow edges, and paths of transition from a bright open space to wooded interiors, and the shapes we find in closer looking. My painting process is itself trying to capture the energy of a place with different mediums and layering techniques. In this installation the works are created with encaustic paint, which involves adding colored pigments into a melted wax medium. I work the surfaces quickly and with intention while inviting chance, letting the materials draft images into existence. During the process of layering, brushing, heating, and scraping, the subjects take shape, coming in and out of focus. Starting my career, I earned degrees in Painting and Ceramics from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn NY, and studied at the Rhode Island School of Design. Having worked for renowned museums and corporate collections in New York and Boston for over thirty years, in exhibitions, collections management, and preventative conservation, I feel lucky to live and work surrounded by the beauty of art.
