Jeff Ostergren works across painting, sculpture, video, drawing, and installation to probe the entangled histories of pharmaceuticals and color. Employing a luminous, pointillist methodology and infusing his works with actual chemical compounds, Ostergren draws on the visual vocabularies of art history and mass-market advertising to map the ecstasy and toxicity latent in contemporary life — tracing the seductive, often dangerous surfaces through which consumer culture makes itself felt on the body. Originally trained as an anthropologist, Ostergren has maintained a sustained artistic practice for over two decades. He is a recipient of a 2026 Creative Capital Grant. Additional recognition includes a 2024 Lillian Orlowsky and William Freed Grant from the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, where his work was presented alongside fellow recipients in Spring 2025, as well as support from the Puffin Foundation, the Connecticut Office of the Arts, and the Bitsie Clark Fund for Artists. Ostergren has presented solo exhibitions at Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, CT; Real Art Ways, Hartford, CT; and the Mercy Gallery at the Loomis Chaffee School, Windsor, CT. Forthcoming solo presentations include Ball & Socket Arts, Cheshire, CT (Fall 2026) and the Florence Griswold Museum, Old Lyme, CT (2027). His work has been included in group exhibitions across New York, Los Angeles, Europe, and New England, most recently at Klaus von Nichtssagend Gallery, New York. In addition to his studio practice, Ostergren maintains an active curatorial presence. His exhibition False Flag: The Space Between Reason and Paranoia (Franklin Street Works, Stamford, CT, 2018) was widely praised. From 2018 to 2019, he directed Tilia Projects, a community exhibition space he operated from his studio in New Haven. Ostergren received his BA in Anthropology and Gender Studies from Rice University, Houston, TX (1998), and his MFA from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA (2006). He lives and works in New Haven, Connecticut.
