Jaclyn Janis is a printmaker who lives in Scarborough, Maine, and works out of her studio at Running With Scissors in Portland. She began printmaking in 2023 at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia, while temporarily living in the area. She was particularly drawn to reduction printmaking, where one wood or linoleum block is sequentially inked, printed, and carved to build layers of color and create a final image, destroying the block in the process. This technique allowed her to channel her nostalgia for Maine’s landscapes while living away and continues to provide a means of celebrating the natural world as a birder and general outdoor enthusiast. Her work has been shown in group exhibitions in Virginia, DC, and Maine. Her pieces are all hand drawn, hand carved, and hand pulled.
