Susie Taylor (b. 1967, Fort Collins, CO) weaves abstract and dimensional textiles that explore the tactile architecture of the loom and the shifting behavior of color. Her geometric abstractions, some reminiscent of architectural forms, investigate the interplay of color, texture, and visual dimension. The foundational grid of weaving becomes the “canvas” for embedded imagery and coded patterns. She is fascinated by how the interlacement of warp and weft creates discernible tones that mix “in the eye”, much like Pointillism. She looks to solve visual and structural puzzles, straddling lines between the tangible and the illusory. Taylor received a BFA from Kansas City Art Institute and an MFA from UCLA. Her work has been exhibited at Johansson Projects (including FOG Art + Design and EXPO Chicago), ICA San Jose, Black Mountain College Museum, Craft Contemporary, Hosfelt Gallery, Momentum Gallery, Peeler Art Center and Memorial Art Gallery., as well as international textile biennials in China and Ukraine. Her textiles are held in the permanent collection of the de Young Museum in San Francisco and have been featured in The LA Times, New American Paintings, and Colossal. She has participated in residencies at Praxis Digital Weaving Lab. Upcoming shows include The Woven Pixel, at San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles from January- May, 2026 and a solo exhibition at The University of Rochester in January 2027.
