STATEMENT “I have loved being outside since childhood and working from direct observation has been key to my development as a painter. I met my husband, Fred, in a field biology class at UVA where we were exploring the natural world side by side. We continue this practice today, painting and fly-fishing. I'm excited by artists with a distinctive painterly style like Van Gogh, Richard Diebenkorn, Andre Derain, and Fairfield Porter. I’m drawn to clear, vibrant color and have created a swatch book for experiments mixing and juxtaposing colors. At a recent studio retreat in Tuscany, I spent four weeks working in variations on yellow.I’m also very influenced by the matriarchs in my life who sewed, hooked rugs, and painted. The creativity and workmanship of my grandmother especially, inspired me not only to express myself, but to strive for excellence.” BIO Deliece Blanchard paints landscapes with lyrical and rhythmic marks that reveal her background in music. A cellist as well as a painter, she is a prize-winning member of the Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society, and American Women Artists. Her paintings have a calm aesthetic, thoughtful design, and an insightful use of color. Deliece has received residencies from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Ireland. Plein air festival awards include first place in the North Carolina Plein Air Festival in New Bern, second place at the Hudson Valley Plein Air, and first place quick paint at the Cashiers Plein Air. She has won multiple awards through the Plein Air Salon Competition and been published in Plein Air Magazine and Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine. In 2025 her work will hang in the American Women Artists’ show, “A Vision of Nature,” at the National Sporting Library and Museum through spring of 2026. Deliece lives in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
