Jon Seeman was born in the artistic community of LagunaBeach, California. Having ART in his DNA, his familyincludes a mix of prominent artists, inventors andengineers. By the age of fifteen, Seeman had created hisfirst welded steel sculpture. Now at the age of 72 isdesigning his 44th public sculpture.In his early twenties he took up residence in Manhattan andbecame immersed in the art world where he searched forhis artistic voice by experimenting in different media andstyles. He found his challenge and passion in three-dimensional modern design.Sculpting soon became an obsession. After apprenticingwith several artisans and learning the necessary skills, hereturned home to Laguna Beach. Seeman opened his ownstudio and continued with advanced art education courses.Influential for him were the early modern abstract artists,Kandinsky in particular. Seeman’s goal was to build largeabstract sculpture, especially in the realm of public art.His career as an acclaimed sculptor truly jump-started inHollywood, California through the big players of theaffluent film industry. Shortly after opening his Laguna artstudio in 1979, he sold his 10-feet tall sculpture titledPierced Arc to a well-known film producer. Oscar-winningstars, film directors, and well-known musicians took noticeof his large scale steel sculptures and became some of his first significant collectors, allowing him to develop therecognition of his work at a high level.The structural integrity of steel gave Seeman the ability tosupport the balance and sense of suspension of his boldgeometric elements. His innovative techniques allow him toweld sculptural forms with almost invisible connections.His creations are inspired from dynamic interaction amonggeometric elements that seemingly defying the principles ofgravity: “I like to design without regard to gravity which inturn provides me with the challenges of fabrication.”
