Pierre Bowring began his creative journey as an abstract painter during high school and college, following in the footsteps of his mother, also an abstract artist. Surrounded by art from an early age, he eventually discovered glassblowing while studying at Virginia Commonwealth University. After graduation, however, he stepped away from the craft for nearly six years to pursue his dream of becoming a chef.It wasn’t until meeting his wife, Jennaway, and doing some soul-searching that Bowring found his way back to glass; rekindling his passion at the Penland School of Craft. Today, he lives in East Chatham, NY, where he and his family have built a home and studio. He views his practice as a family-run endeavor, with form and color serving as the central forces that guide his work.
