Jeremy Winborg is best known for his figurative oil paintings of Native American subjects, combining highly detailed realism with bold, expressive abstract backgrounds. Raised in Utah, he grew up in the studio alongside his father, a professional illustrator, developing his skills from the time he could hold a brush. From his youth, he was already earning awards and recognition, and he never seriously considered another profession. His artistic direction took on deeper meaning after the birth of his Navajo niece, Layla, which inspired a strong personal connection to Indigenous history and culture. Winborg seeks to preserve that heritage by portraying his subjects in historically accurate traditional clothing and regalia. He intends to honor their strength, resilience, and humanity while creating an emotional connection with the viewer. Working primarily in oil, he carefully researches and renders his figures with lifelike precision, then contrasts that realism with energetic brushwork and palette knife texture in the background. This balance between control and spontaneity creates movement, tension, and visual rhythm throughout the composition. Winborg lives and works in Cache Valley, Utah, with his wife, Danielle, and their five children. Outside the studio, he enjoys fly fishing, rock climbing, and photographing the landscapes that continue to influence his work.
