Mark Titchiner's stoneware is glazed with soda, or shino and celadon type glazes, and fired in one of three wood fired kilns at his workshop in Suffolk. The majority is thrown on kick wheels or slab built using clays from France or the west of England, and other materials obtained locally. After training as a thrower in potteries in the south of England, he moved to East Anglia and made plant pots and slipware in the pottery which he established in 1982. Upon his return from a twelve month working visit to New Zealand he began to concentrate more on making slipware, and then the stoneware which now constitutes most of his production.
