South Korea born jewellery designer and maker Misun Won moved to the UK and enrolled on a MA programme at the Edinburgh College of Art in 2006. Won has shown at large UK based and international craft fairs and exhibits her work internationally. Her awards include honours from the Goldsmiths' Craft and Design Council. Misun Won’s jewellery is inspired by the Korean traditional wrapping cloth practice ‘Jogakbo’ and its scientific interpretation with fractal geometry. She hand pierces patterns from a single sheet of silver, which is then folded to create unique structures that celebrates the meaningful ritual of patchwork making processes. She mainly works in silver, gold and Keumboo(24ct gold). Colourful precious and semi-precious stones are used to highlight her Korean influences, creating compelling contemporary pieces. She employs the ancient Korean gilding technique 'Keumboo(24ct gold)' to emphasise the dynamic rhythmical structures in her jewellery.
