Rie Taniguchi creates various life forms and draws inspiration freely from everything she sees, reads and hears. She has a particular affinity with animals and tells stories of extinction, survival and endangerment as well drawing on folklore: her creatures reinact tales from countless cultures. Taniguchi makes objects to both look at and wear. Using a mixture of techniques such as press forming, raising, constructing and carving with silver, Taniguchi will consider a group of work as an installation under a theme, but leaves the meaning somewhat obscure, encouraging the viewer to contemplate and reflect.
