Renowned landscape architect and artist Caroline Sharp's work uses natural materials and is strongly influenced by natural form, containment, growth and movement. Her materials include stone, clay, chalk, willow, poplar, birch, hazel, and dogwood stems, leaves and wood. Sharp's work has become a medium for a deeply personal interaction with nature. Sharp is based in Dorset and has exhibited throughout the UK, often creating site specific works that connect with the natural topography and biodiversity of particular areas. In her sculptural and assemblage works, Sharp uses a variety of natural materials including her own hand-made charcoal. Sharp's main focus is on sustainability and treading the land gently. Much of Sharp's woven and ceramic works are strongly influenced by natural form, containment and movement. More recently she has explored ideas in response to the traditional craft of charcoal burning and her autobiographical journey in relation to walking the land.
