Richard's work spans both abstract sculptural and functional products (furniture and woodturning/carving) often in laminated Birch plywood. His work has a consistent theme in its concern with minimal geometric forms inspired by mathematical models from Calculus, Topology and Knot theory or the industrial landscape. The work can be seen as a series of studies in proportion, balance & rotation.Methodologies range from `traditional' hand carving, through `conventional' machines (e.g. Milling, Turning, Sanding) to more recent work exploring the application of Computer Aided Design and computer aided manufacturing methodologies, specifically CNC milling.Richard combines his creative practice in his studio in Liverpool with academic life and is an Associate Professor of Digital Design in the Fine and Applied Art Department at Liverpool Hope University. Richard disseminates his work via exhibition, conferences and academic papers.
