There can be magic in abstract art. It can evoke mystery, subtlety, and even long forgotten memories. Not only for the viewer, for also in the making of art, and often unconsciously. For me, this is the fun in creating something spontaneously while using various media such as collage, acrylic, and especially oil and cold wax, and working in layers… seeing where each layer leads me, while adhering to compositional and value principles – this is the juxtapositional challenge of abstract art that I will be learning about for the years I have left to engage in this joyful process. Shela Anmuth and her husband Larry re-located to Asheville, NC in 2010 from the Philadelphia area. Shela has been an art creator consistently since childhood, but as for many, this move to beautiful Western North Carolina and the exposure to the arts community, including the availability of so many incredible local artists and workshops, sparked the creative journey that has led to a studio and gallery that she now shares with three other artists in the River Arts District, the Kevin Andrew Gallery and Studio.
