Suchitra Bhosle (b. 1975, Kolhapur, India) is a figurative painter based in Illinois whose contemplative work merges impressionistic brushwork with naturalist traditions. Her paintings capture intimate moments through expressive, gestural techniques that balance observation with spontaneity, often depicting women in atmospheric settings that evoke both timelessness and quiet introspection. At age nine, Bhosle won a UNESCO international painting competition, representing India among global competitors. She pursued degrees in hospitality management and marketing before relocating to the United States in 2001, where she dedicated herself to painting full-time. Bhosle studied through workshops with Jeremy Lipking, Scott Christensen, and Sherrie McGraw, while also attending demonstration sessions with Richard Schmid. Her practice incorporates daily meditation and drawing rituals that inform her intuitive approach to composition and color. Bhosle's technical foundation reflects influence from John Singer Sargent, Anders Zorn, and Joaquin Sorolla, while her subject matter draws from both her California experiences and childhood memories of India. Her paintings have received awards from the Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America, and American Impressionist Society, including the 2015 RayMar Art Competition Grand Prize judged by Dan Gerhartz. She has served as faculty at The Art of the Portrait conference and has been featured in International Artist Magazine and Southwest Art.
