The garden is a part of The Soil Factory Network (SFN), a vibrant interdisciplinary art, event, and research hub centered around ecology and soil health that brings together scientists, scholars, artists, and practitioners from abroad and the local community. The garden itself fills the niche of being a demonstrational ecological restoration garden, while providing support for wildlife—which is paramount, and exists as a resource to our community. We share knowledge, skills, and methods of gardening and supporting wildlife through workshops and events. We foster artistic collaborations by inviting artists to use the garden for research inspiration and source material for projects. 2022-present MOTH BALL Co-creator Athens, NY, Ithaca, NYDeveloped with artist Patrick Costello, Moth Ball is an annual information-gathering wild science extravaganza celebrating creatures of the night with mothing, art, and performative spectacle.
