KAREN CHIN, Ohioan by birth, now splits residence time in both Springfield, Virginia and Wilmington, North Carolina. She served as an active duty Army officer her assignments in Germany and Virginia, as well as civilian work in North Carolina, provided work experience in art education, logistics, college administration and federal acquisition. She left a ten-year middle school art education career for the U.S. Army and has recently returned to the art industry as a working artist and instructor. Karen works in oils, but is equally at home with multi-mixed-water media. Her work includes a series of thirteen watercolor pieces highlighting the US Navy SEALS. A floral shapes and colors series was the focus for her featured artist exhibit in March 2014 at the Lorton Workhouse Arts center. She uses a wide variety of subject matter in her work. Her work includes vibrant colors and shapes in a bit of rebellion to years in uniform. Her art work has been juried into exhibits in Virginia and North Carolina, with sales from events in both states. She has work in permanent collections at Mount Olive College-Wilmington, NC, and in Crystal City, Virginia. She also exhibited at the Towne Bank, Virginia Beach, historic Burgwin-Wright House, Wilmington, NC and the Lorton Workhouse Arts Gift Shop. In March 2015, two of her works were selected by the City of Manassas, for their Banner Art Project. This project features artists’ works in banner form around the city. Three of her pieces have been selected for the 2016 Manassas Banner Project. In March 2016, Light, Space & Time Online Gallery’s exhibit recognized her abstract “White Wind Angels” in their “Special Merit” category of 1073 entries from 29 countries in an exclusively Abstracts competition. In Spring 2017, She was again recognized by Light, Space &Time Gallery for her entry in their annual Women Artists Only Exhibition. In February 2017, she was Featured Artist in Building 9, The Arches Gallery, at the Workhouse Arts Center, Lorton, VA. She is a member of: Springfield Art Guild, Springfield, VA Wilmington (NC) Art Association Collage Artists of Wilmington (NC) Art Guild of Clifton (VA) She is an ARCHES GALLERY ARTIST at the Workhouse Lorton Arts Center, Lorton, VA. These artists exhibit exclusively in the Gallery at Building 9 of the Workhouse, their exclusive exhibit space. As with all the ARCHES ARTISTS, Karen’s studio is off of the Workhouse Arts Center campus. She was Instructor for Fall/Winter 2016-17 Workhouse courses
