“I see my art practice as a continuum. Ideas and processes evolving together, at times, I am adding new work to a series started years ago, or I am experimenting with new materials to create works. Clothes are common and universal objects with a complex craft construction and meaning. They reflect personal expression, contemporary and popular culture, as well as fragmented historical, political, ethical and social meaning. Clothes talk about us and about society. A found box where a mother kept her child’s clothes was the beginning of the print series Out of a Box. The result is, at the same time, a transformed and fragmented portrait of a person. In this transformation the printed garment itself intends to transmute past into present. Relief collagraph is a suitable process for textured plates, the edited garment. Visible and invisible marks become alive on the prints giving them another rich dimension.” Bio I am Luca Cruzat, I was born in Chile. I received an MFA in 2006 from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. I also received an MA in Foreign Languages and Literatures (French) 1993, from the same university. My studio is located in the historical district of Murphysboro, IL. While in Chile, I taught French and I attended art school. Upon arrival in the United States in 1988, I resumed my French studies and teaching. In 2003 I started the MFA because art became my priority, until today. I have participated in national as well as international exhibitions (Hong Kong, England, Germany, and Chile). This year, 2025, the exhibition Mythical Thread at the Hise Museum of Regional Art. Harrisburg, IL, was presented together with metal sculptures by Aldon Addington and video art by Mark Pease. I am a member of the collective Oak Street Art, which organizes an annual Art Fair each April in Murphysboro. IL. In honor of our 10th anniversary of the Art Fair, Darby Ortolano and myself will have an exhibit in October, at Sharp Museum, SIU Carbondale, IL.
