Ed Gendron is an artist working across painting, collage, photography, animation, and graphic design. Based in New Haven, Connecticut, he earned his MFA in Film and Photography from Radford University. Gendron’s work explores the absurdities of being alive—the good, the bad, and the beautifully irrational. Raised in southwestern Virginia, far from art museums and before the age of the internet, he began drawing people and moments that caught his attention. What started as observation grew into a lifelong pursuit of expressing the raw, unpolished humanity he encountered in everyday life.Originally a psychology major, Gendron’s early internship at a psychiatric institution profoundly shaped his creative outlook. The encounters he had there—by turns unsettling, tender, and unexpectedly funny—deepened his fascination with the complexities of the human psyche. That experience continues to inform his work today, whether expressed through surrealist imagery, absurdist humor, or documentary-style realism. Gendron’s art is driven by a desire to reveal what lies beneath the surface: the contradictions, vulnerabilities, and strange beauty that define the human condition.
