Edouard Martial is a contemporary Haitian painter whose work reflects the legacy of the Saint-Soleil movement and the spiritual depth of Vodou art. Inspired by the mentorship of Jean-Claude Garoute (Tiga) and Levoy Exil, Martial began painting in the mid-1990s and quickly developed a distinctive style rooted in symbolism, spirituality, and social commentary. His paintings feature recurring figures such as the Marassas (divine twins), Grand Bois, and Vodou spirits like Danmbala, often combined with powerful imagery of struggle and deliverance. Martial works on canvas, wood, and found objects, blending abstraction with mystical intensity to create artworks that resonate with both Haitian tradition and contemporary expression. Since 1998, Martial has exhibited widely in Port-au-Prince, Pétion-Ville, Fermathe, and St. Jacques, as well as internationally in France and the United States. His works continue to attract collectors and appear at auctions worldwide, valued for their originality and cultural significance. At Myriam Nader Haitian Art Gallery in New York, we proudly feature Edouard Martial among our curated selection of fine Haitian artists. His art exemplifies the spirit of Haitian creativity, Vodou symbolism, and Saint-Soleil aesthetics, offering collectors both profound cultural narratives and unique visual beauty.
