BA Hons from Ruskin School of Art. Evolving as rhythmic compositions of dancing colour, Araminta Blue‘s canvases are carried by an inherent melodious chromatic repertory that draws the beholder‘s eyes. As if animated from within, her works vibrate with an exuberance of finely orchestrated traces which the artist weaves together into arrangements whose ostensibly abstract nature reveals its figurative citations only at second glance. Torsos of delicate silhouette are syncopated by lithe limbs as fragments of bodies appear and recede in a constant play with contour and outline while a narrative begins to form. Araminta Blue’s canvases are handled like drawings on paper: the process of making the work is open to the viewer in the translucent layers and visibly scrubbed out marks. The oil paint is either diluted to act like watercolour, applied in washes, treated with rags or thickened to a clay or cement-like consistency that is slicked and scratched. In her intuitively executed arrangements, the subjects weave together, emerging from and dissolving into the background. The expression of emotion and sensation within the figures is inspired by the energy of scattered light, captured by the immediacy of her painterly gesture. In their musicality, Araminta Blue‘s works involve the viewer as listener for unfurling beyond the mere visual impact of colour and line morphing into images.
