Carol Sinclair works in porcelain because of its purity, colour and preciousness. Made with a meticulous attention to detail, her pieces are simple yet complex in their construction, imbued with layers of meaning.A graduate of Grays School of Art, Aberdeen, Carol has been running her practice since 1991, which has evolved from a hand made tile studio and gallery in Edinburgh to being an exhibiting artist. Since 2018 she has been living in a semi rural location in the foothills of the Cairngorm mountains and the proximity to nature has had a profound impact on the subject matter and purpose of her work. She has adopted a “closed loop" approach to make the best use of precious materials, repurposing and recycling clay when possible.Carol creates one-off pieces and limited edition collections on the theme of connection, both to one another and our environment. My Beloved Cherry Tree celebrates the magnificent cherry tree that stood in her garden until the storms took it down - a reminder of the impact of global warming. After The Storm is inspired by the broken branches the storm left behind. Her most recent collection, Parallax, encourages viewers to consider the importance of differing perspectives to gain a rounded view. Carol Sinclair has exhibited widely, both in the United Kingdom and internationally. She has been shortlisted for the prestigious Inches Carr Award, which supports innovation in craft practice, and her work is held in the permanent collection of the Aberdeen Art Gallery.
