Roger Dale’s work is a vibrant reflection of a life shaped by adventure, curiosity, and a deep connection to the natural world. Before fully dedicating himself to glass, Dale spent nearly two decades as a wilderness guide in the Grand Canyon. That experience — along with his passion for rock climbing, kayaking, and backcountry skiing — continues to inform the energy, movement, and spirit found throughout his work. Dale earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, San Bernardino, where he studied hand-blown glass and ceramics. His training includes study at Pilchuck Glass School, the influential center for the American studio glass movement founded by Dale Chihuly, placing his work within that lineage of innovation and exploration. Working primarily in blown glass, Dale creates pieces defined by bold, saturated color and dynamic movement. Each work is shaped through an intuitive process at the furnace, where timing, heat, and gesture come together in a single continuous act. The resulting forms feel alive — organic, luminous, and constantly shifting as light moves across their surfaces. Guided by a philosophy of “form over function,” Dale approaches glass as a sculptural medium. While some forms may suggest functional origins, their true purpose lies in their presence — inviting the viewer to engage with color, light, and movement in a direct and immediate way. Dale’s work carries a sense of vitality and play — an extension of a life lived outdoors, where light, movement, and experience are always in motion. His work continues to resonate with collectors who are drawn to its energy, craftsmanship, and unmistakable sense of life.
