Puck Askew (b. 1977) is an oil painter raised in Vermont, trained in Florence Italy, and currently residing in North Carolina. Growing up in Vermont, the long winters gave her seemingly endless time to practice drawing and painting. She studied art at the University of Vermont, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in Studio Art with a concentration in painting and sculpture. As a minor concentration she focused on theater from a backstage perspective. She took classes in set, costume and lighting design. This eye for creating an environment continues to inform her painting compositions. She furthered her art education at the Florence Academy of Art where she trained in classical drawing and oil painting from life (2020-2023). She now resides in Western North Carolina and paints both locally and globally. Growing up, Puck spent a lot of time traveling, camping and exploring in natural environments. Her mother was a history major so museums and historic sites were always included in her family's travel plans. Her first job as the book shelver at the town library introduced her to thick art books filled with images of classical art and she was immediately enthralled. As her fascination with art grew, visiting art museums became a regular activity. Puck still enjoys spending time communing with nature, painting landscapes from plein air for which she travels both regionally and abroad. Her studio landscapes are informed by drawings and paintings collected from life. She is enamored with the ever shifting quality of the natural environment. She also enjoys working in portraiture and from still life.
