BIONicholas Sanders is a Texas-based artist working acrossphotography, video, and painting. With a decade of experience in commercial and editorial photography, Sanders brings a practiced eye for light, color, and composition into a fine art practice that is deeply personal and experimental. His current body of work involves painting directly onto photographic prints — a tactile process that blurs the boundaries between documentation and invention. Figures are often obscured or faceless, placed in staged environments saturated with bold color and emotional ambiguity. This evolution grew out of a desire to inject more soul into his image-making and to embrace imperfection, intimacy, and the handmade. Alongside his fine art work, Sanders has spent years photographing Dallas’s most prominent families — with commissioned portraitshanging in the homes of the Joneses, the Perots, and the Hunts. He has completed artist residencies in West Texas and continues to explore new ways of working across mediums. He is currently preparing a new body of work for gallery exhibition and collection. STATEMENTI come to painting through photography — through years ofconstructing images meant to sell, convince, and perform. Thisbody of work is a turning inward. I paint over photographs not to obscure them, but to disrupt the surface and uncover something quieter beneath. Each gesture is a way of reclaiming presence — blocking out the noise, inviting stillness. What begins as precision becomes emotion. What was oncepolished becomes raw. These works are not about perfection, but about reminding us that we live in a world textured with spirit, not just spectacle.
