A photographer at heart, Jeffrey Czum is constantly re-envisioning the world around him. Based in his hometown of Buffalo, New York, he often draws inspiration from the rust-belt landscape he knows best. By capturing everyday objects and transforming them into what he calls “clean collages,” Jeffrey offers viewers a fresh perspective and a glimpse into the unpredictable. His work includes a wide range of landscapes and scenes from around the globe, frequently influenced by cinematic styles and infused with pop-culture references. Beginning with a clear subject in mind, Jeffrey maps out his shot list with careful attention to angle and composition, allowing him to later reconstruct his imagery digitally. An empty blue sky, a building, a strip of grass, a sign—each element becomes essential in building a final image that is minimal, distraction free, and rooted in a sense of surreal clarity. Through this process of visual appropriation, Jeffrey creates an idealized alternate reality. His pieces often comment on the human condition, using satirical phrases placed on artificial neon billboards and advertisements to infuse wit, irony, and cultural commentary into each scene. advertisements to infuse wit, irony, and cultural commentary into each scene.
