Joanne Scerri Valentino is a watercolour visual artist. She is drawn to the medium due to its fluidity and unpredictability, enjoying the challenge of coaxing it into shape in a dance of pigment and water on paper. Her work explores themes of resiliency, and the protagonists in her paintings are often manmade structures and natural landmarks that have withstood the test of time, as well as indigenous flora and fauna that continue to thrive in an increasingly drier, harsher climate.Although Joanne has always been deeply creative, life’s practicalities led her first to a professional career in marketing, then to an educational setting. Her love for art, however, has been a steady companion throughout her life. She followed evening classes at the Malta School of Arts in her teens and was later tutored by Pawlu Grech, Anton Calleja and Barry John Raybould as an adult. After years of honing her craft, Joanne is now a full-time arts practitioner and art tutor. Her works are cherished in private collections in Malta and abroad.
