Clint Howard’s work is rooted in a lifelong connection to nature. Though he began painting with pastels in 2023, his artistic eye was shaped over decades through the study of biology, years working as a pastor, and a career in graphic and web design. For Howard, painting has become the natural result of years spent observing the outdoors. He is drawn to traditions of Tonalism, Impressionism, and Realism, especially in how they express the mood and memory of place. His goal is not to make a statement but to offer a space where viewers can reconnect with the natural world. He wants each painting to feel familiar, even if the viewer has never been there.Howard works primarily from photographs taken during time outdoors. Later, in his studio, he reviews the images, looking for compelling compositions. At the easel, he paints with soft pastels on sanded paper mounted to archival foam core. He values pastels for their directness and vibrant pigment, though he relies on restraint and the subtlety of grays as much as color.Originally from Colorado, Howard now lives in the Ozarks of North Arkansas, near the Buffalo River. He is a lifelong fly fisherman, often on local creeks pursuing smallmouth bass. He lives with his wife, their two teenage daughters, and two miniature poodle mixes. His faith continues to guide both his love of nature and his creative practice.
