Alexis Hunter(b.1992) is an Austin-based multidisciplinary artist whose work explores self-image through racial identity, mental health, the female body, and the male gaze. A BFA graduate from Texas State University, Hunter has exhibited nationally and participated in residencies with Big Medium, the Carver Museum, and MASS Gallery. She was named The Austin Chronicle’s Best Visual Artist of 2023 and teaches painting at the Contemporary Austin’s Art School at Laguna Gloria. In addition to her studio practice, Hunter is an active curator and community organizer. Her creative projects include INVASIVE SPECIES, Big Bad Karaoke, The Others Project, and Open Studio with Alexis Hunter and Friends. She serves on the advisory council of DORF and the curatorial advisory board of Future Front Texas, and is passionate about supporting arts nonprofits that cultivate care and connection. Hunter’s newest body of work, Today Is A Wonderful Day. I’ve Never Seen This One Before…, continues her exploration of collective healing and embodiment. Using water as both subject and symbol, the work reflects on renewal, tenderness, and the quiet spiritual intimacy found in shared spaces of Central Texas.
