Dominic Harman – Artist Biography
Dominic Harman (b. 1974) is a British artist whose practice spans nearly three decades of professional illustration and a return to traditional painting. Raised in Southwick, England, Harman developed an early passion for art through his grandfather, an oil painter, and formative encounters with classical masterworks at the National Gallery in London. He completed a Foundation course before building a career illustrating science fiction, fantasy, and horror book covers for publishers including Harper Collins, Simon and Schuster, Tor, and Del Rey.
Harman has collaborated with authors such as Phillip Pullman, Clive Barker, and Terry Pratchett. He holds eight illustration awards, including three British Science Fiction Awards and the Asimov's Science Fiction Award for Best Artist. His training includes study at the Angel Academy of Art in Florence under Michael John Angel.
Working in oils and acrylics with palette knives and brushwork, Harman creates abstract and expressive figurative paintings that explore color, form, and texture. His ongoing series, Patchwork Horizons, investigates urban skylines. Harman is represented by select galleries across the United States including Abend Gallery.
