Georgia has been Janet's home for over 20 years and together with her husband they have raised 2 daughters, a son, and 3 dogs. She brought with her a Northerner’s love for snow days off school, an exposure to the big city and an internal compass of the lake is always east. Janet graduated with a BA in Marketing from the University of Denver and brought from the West a laid-back attitude and love of the mountains and an afternoon rain storm. These things always creep into her artwork. In all her years, Janet has never been without the paint, the clay and the paper. She played with ceramics, sewing, beading and collaging all through school. After visiting the art galleries in Carmel, CA she decided it was time to take painting more seriously. She then took the leap into oil and acrylic painting with a mentor for 3 years. About 8 years ago, Janet discovered encaustic painting and found her medium. Using encaustic techniques allows her to express her life joys as mixed media abstracts, textured florals, and abstract landscapes. Janet tends not to stick to one genre for long, but her color palettes, love of textures and affinity towards nature are a constant. Beeswax allows her to embed objects, collage papers, and paint all at once while playing with a blowtorch. She finds it very addictive. Janet always returns to telling stories of the people she loves, experiences she's lived and the precious memories she wants to preserve.
