Lucio Carvalho (b. 1965, Cambucí, Brazil) is a contemporary artist whose work blends the emotional complexity of memory with visual references drawn from Baroque, Rococo, and Renaissance aesthetics. Known for his deeply intuitive and layered creative process, Carvalho transforms classical influences into poetic reflections on identity, vulnerability, and human experience. His practice centers around sculpture and painting, often merging refined elegance with subtle discomfort—inviting the viewer into a space of inner tension and emotional openness.Raised on a family farm in Brazil, Carvalho began drawing under his grandmother’s banquet table as a quiet child seeking refuge in observation. This introspective foundation led him to graduate in Industrial Design and Drawing from the University of Rio de Janeiro in 1986, followed by a successful career as an artistic director.
