Felicity Sidwell's art journey has been one of constant exploration, study, evolution and growth. She grew up in England and started painting when she came to the United States with her husband in 1971. They lived in an old farmhouse in Newtown, Connecticut for over 30 years, briefly raising sheep and chickens along with their three boys, but Felicity always made time to work on her painting. In 2006 the move to midcoast Maine was a definitive time in Felicity's art as the strength of her impressionist style developed, her favored medium has gone from oils to many years as a watercolorist, she now paints almost exclusively in oils, preferring to work outside, en plein air, often with the Plein Air Painters of Maine, to capture the colors and light of the landscape. Another helpful influence during this period was the Thursday Group of painting friends that Felicity was a part of, giving each other critiques and support as their work and friendships evolved. In the summer of 2016 Felicity again moved, this time from Maine to rural Gettysburg Pennsylvania to be nearer her grandchildren, and to explore in paint, the country of farmland and forested hills reminiscent of the landscape of Hertfordshire in England where she spent her childhood. This is a whole new adventure, it will be interesting to see what direction Felicity Sidwell's art will take in the years to come.
