Cobalt Fine Arts is proud to feature the work of glassblowing artist John McDonald. John’s art is driven by the thrill of seeing an image in his mind come to life at the end of a pipe. Each piece begins with layered, blended, and mixed colored glass, shaped through the age-old process of glassblowing at temperatures over 2000 degrees. Using a blowpipe, hand tools, and even gravity, he spins, twists, cuts, and pulls the molten glass into elegant, dynamic forms. After slowly cooling in a kiln, every work reveals its own unique shape and luminous clarity of color. With nearly 30 years of experience, John’s glass art is collected worldwide. His interest in glassblowing began in high school in Liberal, Kansas, and he went on to study the medium in community college before spending seven years as a glassblower in a Wichita studio. He is an active supporter of many charitable causes, and his pieces have been presented to notable figures including Michael Jackson; Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen; and former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, as well as used as awards by numerous companies and universities.
