Benjamín Aitala (b. 1971, Olavarría, Argentina) is a contemporary artist whose practice investigates the relationship between form, material, and visual rhythm through large-scale abstract and neo-expressionist painting. Working between spontaneous gesture and compositional structure, Aitala creates layered surfaces that merge vibrant color fields, graffiti-like markings, botanical references, and recurring symbolic motifs. His work occupies a space where abstraction becomes both physical and emotional, engaging viewers through movement, tension, and material presence rather than fixed narrative.Developed through an ongoing studio practice rooted in experimentation and refinement, Aitala’s process combines traditional acrylic painting with digital tools, including projection and graphic design technologies, allowing compositions to evolve through both intuition and precision. The resulting works balance immediacy with control, revealing a dynamic dialogue between constructed form and expressive freedom. Educated at the Faculty of Fine Arts of La Plata, Aitala has received support from the Antorchas and TRAMA foundations, and his work has been exhibited extensively in Argentina and internationally, including participation in major fairs such as ART BASEL and Art Miami. His paintings are held in private collections and have been presented in leading contemporary gallery contexts. In resonance with Artemisa Gallery’s curatorial vision, Aitala’s work reflects a commitment to contemporary abstraction as a language capable of bridging emotional experience, spatial awareness, and cultural dialogue. His paintings possess a rare balance of restraint and vitality: visually immersive yet deeply grounded in formal discipline. Whether installed in architectural interiors or exhibition spaces, the works maintain a strong visual identity while inviting sustained contemplation. Through layered surfaces and rhythmic compositions, Aitala contributes to a broader conversation around contemporary Latin American abstraction—one that values material intelligence, process, and the transformative potential of visual experience.
