Gaby Herbstein (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1969) is a contemporary visual artist and photographer whose multidisciplinary practice explores identity, spirituality, ecology, and collective consciousness through richly constructed visual narratives. Beginning her career in fashion photography in the early 1990s, Herbstein gradually expanded into conceptual and socially engaged projects that investigate the relationship between image, symbolism, nature, and human experience. Her work is distinguished by an immersive visual language that merges poetic surrealism with themes of transformation, cultural memory, and emotional introspection.Working across photography, installation, editorial projects, and large scale conceptual series, Herbstein constructs symbolic worlds that transcend traditional photographic practice. Through projects such as Estados de Conciencia, Divina Belleza, La Diablada, and Creer Para Ver, she examines spiritual evolution, environmental fragility, ritual, and the interconnected narratives that shape contemporary existence across cultural boundaries. Her compositions combine theatricality, mythology, and meticulous visual detail, creating sensorial experiences that engage both personal and collective dimensions of perception and meaning.Herbstein’s work has been exhibited internationally throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia, including presentations at the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA), the Darwin Museum in Moscow, and the IDB Staff Association Art Gallery in Washington, D.C., as well as participation in major international art contexts including Art Basel Miami. Recipient of numerous international distinctions, including Gold and Silver Medals at the Prix de la Photographie Paris, Herbstein has also been recognized for her cultural and social contributions through projects that bridge art, environmental awareness, and human connection. Through a practice that is visually compelling, conceptually layered, and emotionally resonant, her work reflects an expansive dialogue between contemporary Latin American perspectives and universal themes of transformation, perception, and collective consciousness.
