Kay Gasei is a Zambian-British visual artist based in London whose practice explores the intersections of symbolism, abstraction, and surrealism. His work is shaped by a multidisciplinary background spanning illustration, fashion, and fine art, resulting in a distinctive visual language grounded in layered narratives and intuitive mark-making. Drawing from mythology, dreams, and lived experience, Gasei constructs painterly environments where symbols, figures, and forms emerge and dissolve within fluid compositions. His works resist fixed interpretation, operating instead as open-ended spaces that invite introspection, ambiguity, and emotional engagement. Gasei’s paintings are characterised by their atmospheric quality and subtle tension between clarity and obscurity. Through a process that privileges intuition over resolution, he approaches painting as a form of storytelling that unfolds gradually, allowing meaning to remain in flux. He presented work at the London Art Fair (2026) with The Southern Art Hub, after which his work Moonlight Series IV was placed with Saatchi Gallery for inclusion in The Sun and the Moon: Art Inspired by the Celestial (Summer 2026), an international exhibition spanning two floors of the gallery. His work is also currently on view in Shanghai as part of an exhibition with EG Projects, reflecting his growing international presence. His practice situates itself within a broader discourse shaped by symbolism, perception, and the subconscious, offering a nuanced exploration of how personal and collective narratives can be constructed through image-making.
