Sarah Boston is a self-taught artist whose work is deeply rooted in the spirit and traditions of the American West. Originally from Great Falls, Montana, and raised in the heart of Russell country, she developed an early admiration for Western art and storytelling—an influence that continues to shape her artistic vision more than two decades into her career. Working primarily in oil paint, soft pastel, and graphite, Sarah is recognized for her highly realistic portraiture of both people and animals. Her work combines technical precision with emotional depth, capturing not only likeness, but presence and character. Through meticulous attention to detail and a dedication to authenticity, she creates pieces that invite viewers into quiet narratives layered with meaning, memory, and connection. Now based in Crested Butte, Sarah remains an active and influential presence within the regional arts community. She curates the annual exhibition “Resonance” at the A.R. Mitchell Museum of Western Art in Trinidad, CO, and recently accepted the role of director at Oh Be Joyful Gallery. Beyond her professional work, she finds her greatest inspiration and fulfillment in the time she spends with her son, John.
