Annette was born in Reno, Nevada and grew up backpacking the Sierras and scrambling the boulders at Sand Harbor. She always loved painting and being outside, but took a 10 year detour working in technology. Finally in 2023, she attended a week-long painting retreat in the Sierra Nevadas. For the first time in almost a decade, she was completely immersed in painting. She knew right away that she needed to make art a focus in her life, and left the corporate world. Now as a full time artist, Annette aspires to change the way people view nature. “Each of my paintings emphasize shapes or colors that are unexpected in the landscape. I want viewers to not just enjoy my artwork, but afterwards notice those unusual or striking things themselves when they are out in nature…the way golden grass turns purple in shadow, the illogical spires of a mountain peak, or the unexpected colors hidden in a ripple of water.”She now lives in the Sacramento area with her husband and 3 young boys, and finds time to paint during naptime and with little helpers on her lap. Her boys love being in her studio and often help create the genuine spontaneity often seen in her brushwork.
