Kathy spent her summers as a child in Truro and has maintained a home in Provincetown/Truro for the past 40 plus years. She is a process painter playing with color, textures, and subjects in a way that remain abstract and strives to have the viewer feel some personal connection to the work: a memory, feeling or emotion. She believes that everything animate or inanimate has a spirit or essence and her job is to portray that. Painting for her demands experimentation, fearlessness and willingness to try something new. Her exploration and expression is one-of-a-kind. Her work includes Oil Painting, Encaustic, Screenprinting and any combination of the mediums that allow her to obtain the desired result. Her work has been shown in Provincetown, Palm Beach, Key West, Miami , and the Hamptons. She also received one of the first residencies at the Hawthorne Barn in Provincetown. The work of Kathy Cotter is very evocative of life on Cape Cod...and the textural quality of the work is what always seems to excite....While looking at the work one is transported into a world of color, shape and textures that seem very real and abstract as well... “
