Minnesota artist Tim Harding's career has encompassed the aesthetic continuum of applied, decorative, and fine arts. He received his B.A. in studio arts with an emphasis in painting from Hamline University in 1973. Harding went on to complete additional coursework at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, and Macalester College. Influential figures he studied with include Jantje Visscher, Mike Price, Don Celender and Jim Conaway. Harding transitioned from painting to printing and textiles upon graduation from Hamline. In 1975, Harding established a silkscreen printed supergraphic textile studio called Colorfield Fabrics. By 1983, Harding began his decades-long collaboration with his spouse and partner, Kathleen Harding, as Harding Design Studio in the fine craft field, art-to-wear movement. Since 1998, he has created work out of Tim Harding Studio in SE Minneapolis, focusing on large-scale, commissioned, textile-art wall pieces. Harding has been the recipient of Minnesota State Arts Board, Arts Midwest, and NEA Fellowships and his work is held in the following museum collections: Minneapolis Institute of Art, Minnesota Museum of American Art, MFA Boston, Smithsonian-Renwick, Smithsonian-Cooper Hewitt, Museum of Art & Design, Kwangju-Korea, and San Francisco Museums of Fine Art.
