Antonio Matallana's artworks are a unique combination of the modern and the historical. He works in egg tempera on wood, using the technique of the Old Masters. The resulting photorealistic still lifes meld rich, classic colours and lighting with a contemporary eye for composition. Antonio chooses objects with a certain timelesseness: books, timepieces, glass lenses, playing cards, globes, lace tableclothes and shoes, among others. Now known around the world, Antonio has earned the status of a famous international artist, well-known for the quality of his technique. Born in Spain in 1953, Antonio studied at the Faculty of Fine Art in Seville from 1970 to 1975 - and was awarded the Degree of Professor of Fine Art in 1975. He then studied at the Ecole Superieure des Beaux Arts, Rouen, France from 1976 to 1977. While studying, Antonio Matallana met Sabine Satur, another painter, whom he later married. He was enrolled in 1978 at the prestigious Ecole du Louvre, in Paris. Both artists Matallana and Satur now live in Paris.
